“Garden design has become too much like interior design applied out of doors, with a focus on overnight transformations rather than the craft of growing and nurturing plants”

Design process

If you have a garden the probability is that at some stage you will have considered creating a stunning outside space, a refection of the way in which you want to spend your free time outdoors. A green living area to entertain guests late into the night perhaps, a shady spot to read a book or a sun drenched patio to laze away summer afternoons. Creating your dream garden doesn’t happen by accident, a successful space needs carefully consideration

Of course it’s worth noting that not every projects needs a fully designed plan, we can determine this at our initial meeting. For simple requirements such as the installation of pergola or a fence we can discus the ideas and work out a quotation without the need for a full design. This will help save you unnecessary expenses.

Initial consultation (No Fee)

During our initial onsite consultation with one of our design team we will work through a number of important considerations, this meeting normal takes between 1 and 2 hours. At this stage we will discuss the costs of producing the plan, cots depend on the size of the garden and the detail required. You should consider the following points carefully prior to our first meeting this will allow us to produce a design concept which fulfils all your requirements.

  • It is critically important to consider the eventual cost of constructing the garden, without a budget we may design a garden that you cannot afford to build. If that happens its back to the drawing board adding unnecessary expense.
  • How will you use the garden, what time of day will the garden be mostly used and by whom, will it be used all year round or only on a summer weekend. How much time is available for maintenance?
  • What are the features you what to incorporate into the design, a patio, decking, lawn or pergola. Don’t forget about the dog or the washing line.
  • What style of garden would you like to create, traditional or contemporary, formal or informal.

Site Survey

To produce a plan it is necessary to measure the garden, this is usually carried out by our own design team but in some instances where there is a dramatic change in level or where the site is large and complex we would use the services of and independent surveyor. If this is the case we would advise you of this at the consultation stage. We will also look at the garden aspect and take soil samples as necessary.

Concept drawings

From our initial site meeting and survey drawings we will create an outline plan this will be to scale and will form the backbone of the garden. The plan will incorporate your ideas as discussed during the initial consultation, showing the proposed layout of the hard landscape features as well as some planting proposals. At this stage you will have an opportunity to review the ideas during an onsite visit lasting approximately 1 hour. Minor alterations can be made to the plan and providing that they fall within the scope of the original design brief this can be done without additional cost

Final drawings

Once the layout of the garden is agreed we can complete the full plan with any amendments made at the concept stage. The final drawing will include the planting schedule with plants used that will suit your particular style of garden as well as the aspect and the soil conditions. At this stage we will produce a fully itemised quotation allowing you to see the cost of each individual element of the garden.
